MORGAN HILL, CA – A 28-year-old Gilroy man has been arrested in connection with a drive-by shooting that left a 17-year-old injured in Morgan Hill earlier this month.

Officers with the Morgan Hill Police Department responded to multiple reports of gunfire in the 100 block of Ciolino Avenue around 12:13 a.m. on September 13, 2025. Upon arrival, officers found several bullet casings on the street and sidewalk. While on scene, they learned that a 17-year-old victim with non-life-threatening gunshot wounds had been transported to Saint Louise Hospital. The victim has since been treated and released.
Detectives determined that the suspect, standing on a sidewalk, opened fire on a vehicle carrying four occupants as it traveled along Ciolino Avenue. Surveillance footage captured the suspect fleeing through a nearby apartment complex immediately after the shooting.
The suspect was identified as Giovani Ahumada, 28, of Gilroy. On September 18, 2025, Morgan Hill detectives, with assistance from the Gilroy/Morgan Hill SWAT Team, served search warrants at homes in both cities. Ahumada was arrested without incident and booked into the Santa Clara County Jail on charges of attempted homicide and being a felon in possession of a firearm.
The investigation remains ongoing.
