Good Samaritans help save man in mental health crisis on Victorville freeway overpass

VICTORVILLE, CA – A mental health crisis prompted a swift and compassionate response from civilians and a Sheriff’s Department employee after an adult male was seen on the ledge of a freeway overpass.

The incident occurred around 1:27 p.m. on Thursday, September 18, 2025, near Bear Valley Road and Amargosa Road. According to the Victorville Police Department, multiple reports were received about a man climbing a chain-link fence and sitting atop the structure facing northbound traffic.

Before deputies arrived, two nearby civilians and a civilian employee of the Sheriff’s Department intervened and were able to safely guide the man back over the ledge, restraining him to prevent any further danger.

Deputies arrived shortly afterward and assumed control of the situation. The man was transported to a local hospital for mental health evaluation and treatment.

Authorities commended the quick actions of the community members and the department employee who stepped in during the critical moment.
