ATASCOCITA, TX – A man was arrested early Tuesday morning after allegedly opening fire on Harris County Sheriff’s Office deputies responding to a call on Atlantic Drive.
According to Sheriff Ed Gonzalez, deputies arrived at the 18600 block of Atlantic Drive and were met with gunfire from a wooded area. The suspect, identified as Kenyon Levor Coleman, was reportedly dressed in all black and armed with an automatic rifle and multiple rounds of ammunition.
Sheriff Gonzalez stated the rifle appeared to have jammed, preventing further shots. Coleman then retreated into the woods but was later located and taken into custody without injury to deputies. The rifle was recovered at the scene.
Investigators believe the initial 9-1-1 call may have been a swatting attempt. Coleman was charged with Aggravated Assault of a Police Officer and booked into the Harris County Jail.
