Chase Washington arrested for manslaughter after fatal shooting of 20-year-old woman in Magnolia

MAGNOLIA, DE – Delaware State Police have arrested 23-year-old Chase Washington, of Magnolia, in connection with the fatal shooting of a 20-year-old woman on September 30, 2025.

At approximately 7:30 p.m., troopers responded to a residence in the 800 block of Millchop Lane following reports of a shooting. Upon arrival, they located the woman suffering from a gunshot wound. She was transported to a nearby hospital, where she was later pronounced deceased. Her identity is being withheld pending family notification.

According to the Delaware State Police Homicide Unit, which assumed the investigation, Washington, an acquaintance of the victim, was inside the residence handling a loaded handgun in a reckless manner when it discharged and struck the woman.

Washington was taken into custody without incident and transported to Troop 3. He was later arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 7 and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on a $100,000 cash bond. He is charged with the following offenses:

  • Manslaughter Recklessly Causing the Death of Another Person (Felony)
  • Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony (Felony)
