Juvenile charged with double murder in Wilmington shooting of two teens

WILMINGTON, DE – Wilmington Police have arrested a 16-year-old male in connection with the October 8 shooting that killed two teenage boys in the area of 6th and North Pine Streets.

According to Wilmington Police, officers responded around 5:07 p.m. and found two male victims suffering from gunshot wounds. Sixteen-year-old Nathan Lopez of Newark was pronounced deceased at the scene. Seventeen-year-old Kaleb Blumberg, also of Newark, was transported to the hospital in critical condition and later died from his injuries.

The case was investigated by Detective Justin Wilkers of the Wilmington Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division. On October 13, the case was presented to a New Castle County Grand Jury, which returned an indictment.

The juvenile suspect was taken into custody on October 14 and charged with the following:

  • Two counts of first-degree murder
  • Two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony
  • Two counts of wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony
  • One count of possession of a firearm by a person prohibited

The juvenile was arraigned in New Castle County Superior Court and committed to the New Castle County Detention Center on $2,030,000 cash-only bail.
