PALO ALTO, CA – Police are investigating a fatal vehicle collision that resulted in the death of an elderly bicyclist who was struck earlier this month along the Foothill Expressway.

The incident occurred on October 4, 2025, at approximately 12:18 p.m. in the 3400 block of Foothill Expressway. According to police, the cyclist, a man in his eighties, was traveling southbound in the bicycle lane when he entered into the lanes of vehicular traffic and was struck by a 2022 Mercedes Benz sedan.
The cyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision and suffered a major head injury. He was transported by paramedics to a local hospital, where he died on October 15, 2025.
The driver of the vehicle, a person in their nineties, remained at the scene and cooperated with officers. Police stated there is no indication that drugs or alcohol were factors in the collision.
The Specialized Traffic Accident Reconstruction (STAR) team is continuing to investigate the cause of the crash. The victim’s identity has not been released publicly.
