GALVESTON COUNTY, TX – The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a drowning that claimed the life of 67-year-old Andrew Follett near Redfish Island in Chambers County.

The incident occurred around 4:30 p.m. on October 24, 2025, approximately two miles off San Leon near Pier 6. According to investigators, Follett and his wife had anchored their sailboat near Redfish Island and used a smaller shore boat to reach land. The shore boat later came untied and drifted away, prompting Follett to enter the water in an effort to retrieve it.
Due to windy conditions, Follett was in the water for roughly 30 to 40 minutes before his wife lost sight of him. A nearby boater who was alerted by the wife located Follett unresponsive in the water and brought him aboard. CPR was administered, and emergency crews met the vessel at Pier 6, where Follett was pronounced deceased.
The Galveston County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigations Division, assisted by the Marine Division and the U.S. Coast Guard, found no signs of foul play. Investigators determined the drowning to be a tragic accident.
