Two killed in five-vehicle crash on Coastal Highway in Lewes

LEWES, DE – Delaware State Police are investigating a fatal five-vehicle crash that occurred on Coastal Highway Friday afternoon.

The crash happened around 2:30 p.m. on November 7, 2025, south of Hudson Road. According to police, a Peterbilt dump truck traveling southbound failed to slow for traffic and struck the rear of a Ford Edge, causing a chain reaction involving a Nissan Altima, a BMW X2, and a BMW 135.

The driver of the Ford, a 62-year-old woman from Bel Air, Maryland, was taken to a hospital where she died. A passenger, a 64-year-old man from Bel Air, was pronounced deceased at the scene. Their names are being withheld pending family notification.

Three other drivers, a 57-year-old man from Millsboro, a 75-year-old woman from Milton, and a 27-year-old man from Wilmington, sustained non-life-threatening injuries. The driver of the BMW 135, a 74-year-old man from Lewes, was not injured.

Coastal Highway was closed for about five hours while police investigated and cleared the scene.
