Four hospitalized after driver suspected of intoxication crashes into HPD patrol unit in Midtown

HOUSTON, TX – According to the Houston Police Department, officers from the South Central Station were involved in a major crash after another vehicle reportedly disregarded a stop sign at the intersection of Chenevert and Tuam.

Police stated the HPD patrol unit was traveling northbound on Chenevert, which has no stop signs at the intersection. The civilian vehicle was driving westbound on Tuam, where stop signs control traffic in both directions, and failed to stop before striking the marked unit. Police noted the officers had the right of way.

Two officers and two occupants of the civilian vehicle were transported to Memorial Hermann. All were reported to be conscious, breathing, and in stable condition with injuries believed to be non-critical, pending medical evaluations.

Both occupants of the civilian vehicle admitted to drinking, and HPD requested a DWI unit to conduct an intoxication investigation at the hospital. Charges are expected if intoxication is confirmed.

If you have any information, you are urged to contact the Houston Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
