HOUSTON, TX – An after-hours club was raided overnight at 4210 Emancipation Avenue as part of the Mayor’s public safety initiative.
The raid occurred around 3 a.m. at the Greenwood Lounge in Houston. Multiple individuals were detained during the operation.
Police found a vehicle behind the club containing multiple boxes of liquor. Inside the club, officers also located numerous alcohol bottles and a large amount of hookah-related items.
Assistant Chief Rodriguez said, “We have a lot of reports and complaints from the citizens of this after hours club with the loud noise. DWI’s coming out of here. Just people, not, being responsible. In their behavior. And, as you know, there, you know, these, facilities don’t have any permits.”
He added, “They’re selling alcohol. There’s all kinds of, illegal activity that’s going on. And we’re here to send a message to Houston that this type of, behavior is not going to be tolerated with these after hours clubs. As you can see, they’re serving, food out in the open right here, right behind us. And there’s all kinds of activity inside.”
Captain Nguyen of the South Central Patrol Division said, “This is a part of the mayor’s public safety initiative. The mayor, the chief has been big on us getting out here and, you know, bringing public safety to the community. Shutting these places down. You know, we spent a lot of time or energy with resources that were given by, you know, the mayor and the chief to, partner with different agencies.”
Nguyen also said, “We have the state comptroller’s office out here. We have the Houston Fire Department assisting us. We have ARA, which is city permitting. We also have TABC, the state. So there’s a lot of different groups out here helping us. And so to make this successful, we have to partner with the different city entities and state entities.”
He added, “And these are bad actors. These are bad actors that we want to shut down. The community has cried long enough, and we want to be out here to provide this kind of service and shut these places down.”
