“Pimping in the pulpit”: Dr. Matthews leads protest outside Houston church Sunday morning

HOUSTON, TX – Dr. Candice Matthews led a protest outside a Houston church Sunday morning, calling for the removal of Pastor Mike Key amid serious allegations of abuse and financial misconduct.

Dr. Matthews accused Pastor Key of physically assaulting his wife, defrauding her of more than $11,000, and misleading the congregation by concealing multiple bankruptcies, prior criminal charges in Texas and Louisiana, and the use of several aliases. She stated that she had video evidence, audio recordings, and documentation supporting the claims.

She also alleged that Pastor Key used social media to solicit money from women and falsely presented himself as divorced while continuing to live with his wife. The protest lasted over 20 minutes, with Dr. Matthews demanding accountability and urging the church community to take action.

The protest occurred at a facility where Pastor Key’s ministry subleases space. In an official statement, Apostle Ziphus Foster and Overseer Eddrena Foster clarified that the views and actions of Pastor Key do not reflect those of their ministry.

“At this time, we have only been exposed to one side of an ongoing situation, and we want to be clear that this does not represent the views, values, or position of our ministry,” the statement read. The Fosters added that threats or intimidation directed at their leadership or associated ministries would not be tolerated and that any decisions will be made based on “proper protocol, due diligence, verified facts, wisdom, and prayer.”

Pastor Key has not issued a public response. No criminal charges have been confirmed at this time.

This is a developing story and more information will follow if it becomes available.
