Man critically injured after being struck by vehicle while retrieving jet ski that fell off trailer

HARRIS COUNTY, TX – According to deputies, a man was critically injured after being struck by a trailer during a crash in the 18200 block of Beaumont Highway.

Deputies with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene around 8:14 p.m. after receiving reports of a major accident.

According to deputies, the man had been traveling westbound in a Toyota 4Runner while hauling a jet ski when the jet ski fell off the trailer. The driver pulled over and attempted to retrieve the jet ski off the highway.

During that time, a Volkswagen traveling eastbound struck the trailer. The trailer then struck the man, and both he and the trailer ended up in a ditch on the eastbound side of the highway.

EMS transported the man by ambulance. He was initially taken toward LBJ Hospital, but after crews were able to regain a pulse inside the ambulance, he was diverted to Ben Taub Hospital. He was reported to be in stable but critical condition.

Deputies said the roadway was very dark with no lighting in the area. At this time, deputies do not believe alcohol was a factor in the crash. The investigation is ongoing.
