Pedestrian killed on East Freeway in Channelview

HARRIS COUNTY, TX – A pedestrian was pronounced deceased after being struck on the East Freeway in the Channelview area.

The crash occurred around 9:21 p.m. in the 15000 block of the East Freeway, where deputies responded to an auto-pedestrian accident on the westbound mainlanes. EMS was already on scene and had pronounced the victim deceased prior to deputies arriving.

According to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office, the victim, described as a Hispanic male appearing to be in his 30s, was walking in the inside lane of the freeway when he was struck by a black Chevrolet Suburban. The driver initially pulled over and then left the scene, but later contacted the sheriff’s office and stated he had struck something. Deputies located and interviewed the driver, who has been identified.

Investigators said the driver told deputies he did not know he had struck a person at the time. Authorities also stated they do not believe alcohol was a contributing factor. Witnesses reported the victim was walking in an active lane of traffic.
