Toddler fatally struck by security guard vehicle at southwest Houston apartment complex

HOUSTON, TX – A toddler was struck by a vehicle at an apartment complex in southwest Houston.

The incident occurred around 9:26 p.m. at the Reserve at Westwood, located at 10225 Bissonnet.

A Hispanic family was leaving their apartment and loading into their vehicle when their one-year-old, almost two-year-old boy slipped away from his mother and ran into the roadway of the parking lot. A security guard patrolling the complex made contact with the child, felt the impact, stopped, and got out.

The father and the security guard called 911 and began rendering aid. They then placed the child into the security guard’s vehicle to transport him to the hospital. Houston Fire Department crews arrived at the same time, took over care, and transported the child to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The family is at the hospital. The security guard remained on scene and cooperated with investigators. He was evaluated by DWI investigators and found not to have any intoxicants in his system. He is not facing charges at this time.
