HOUSTON, TX – A shooting at a Midtown parking lot left one man dead, another in critical condition, and a third injured after a fight escalated in a crowded area.
According to the Houston Police Department, officers working an extra job at a club nearby heard multiple gunshots across the street and went to investigate.
The shooting occurred in a parking lot near a Midtown club in the 3000 block of Milam as the club was letting out and people were walking to their vehicles.
Police said a fight broke out between several males, and at least one person produced a weapon and fired multiple shots, striking at least three people. One male collapsed at the scene, and another ran across the street before collapsing.
Both victims were transported by the Houston Fire Department, where one was pronounced deceased at the hospital and the other remains in critical condition. A third victim self-transported to a hospital with a gunshot wound to the arm.
Officers detained two possible suspects. Police said an officer saw one male with a weapon and pursued him, but by the time he was taken into custody, the weapon had been handed off to someone else and was not recovered.
Police said it is unclear what led to the shooting or whether those involved were connected to the club.
The Houston Police Department Homicide Division is investigating.
