NEW ORLEANS, LA – Dr. Matthews turned a recent book signing event into what attendees described as an educational discussion on activism, community involvement, and understanding legal rights during demonstrations and public actions.
During the event promoting her book, Activism 101: Turning Outrage Into Action, Dr. Matthews spoke about different forms of activism and stressed the importance of learning the law before taking action in the community.
She told attendees that understanding local laws, protest rights, and interactions with law enforcement can help activists avoid unnecessary legal trouble while still effectively advocating for change.
Dr. Matthews also discussed how activism extends beyond protests, encouraging people to become informed, organized, and engaged within their communities before responding to issues emotionally.
The event, which began as a traditional book signing, evolved into an open discussion where attendees asked questions and shared concerns about community issues and advocacy efforts.
The event was hosted by Byron Cole and Upset the Setup.
