Multiple detained after officer assaulted, firearm discharges at north Houston nightclub

HOUSTON, TX – Houston Police responded to reports of a large crowd gathering at a nightclub in north Houston after a gunshot was reported during an event late Saturday night.

The incident occurred around 11 p.m. at Cowgirls, located in the 11400 block of the North Freeway.

According to police, officers with the Houston Police Department North Division arrived and found approximately 500 people gathered in the parking lot and another 500 people inside the nightclub.

While officers were on scene, someone in the crowd discharged a firearm. The gunshot caused people to run in multiple directions, including across the North Freeway frontage road to a nearby Shell gas station.

Police said the incident did not result in a stampede or any known secondary injuries. Investigators did not immediately know whether the firearm discharge was intentional or accidental.

The Fire Marshal’s Office responded and shut down the nightclub. Deputies with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office and Harris County Constable Precinct 4 assisted Houston police in bringing the situation under control.

One officer was assaulted during the incident but was not injured. Multiple people were also detained at the scene.

The investigation is ongoing.
