HOUSTON, TX – Dr. Matthews held a press conference outside the 280th District Court and announced that she and others planned to file judicial complaints against Judge Damiane Dianne Curvey with the State Commission on Judicial Conduct. Dr. Matthews alleged the judge had engaged in misconduct, abused judicial authority, and should be held accountable through the complaint process.
During the event, Dr. Matthews discussed a pending protective order case involving herself and said her legal team had filed a motion seeking the judge’s recusal. She alleged that Judge Curvey signed a protective order application despite prior actions involving Dr. Matthews and another individual.
Dr. Matthews also criticized the use of a witness list in a recent court proceeding, alleging that she and other court observers were added as witnesses in a manner that prevented them from observing the hearing.
Several speakers joined Dr. Matthews during the press conference. Kyle French alleged that placing court observers on a witness list was a strategy designed to exclude them from courtroom proceedings and raised concerns about relationships between attorneys and court officials.
Former Harris County Sheriff’s Office Sgt. Jeff Reese said he had previously filed a complaint involving Judge Curvey and described concerns about judicial impartiality based on his own experiences in court.
The complaint was later sent off via USPS Certified Mail to SCJC.
