Suspect shot after pointing firearm at father, child and officers during chase

HOUSTON — A suspect was hospitalized after a shooting involving Houston police officers in west Houston earlier today, according to the Houston Police Department.

Police said officers responded at approximately 6:44 p.m. to the 14300 block of Westheimer Road after a man reported that a suspect was pointing a firearm at him and his child.

According to the Houston Police Department, officers arrived and ordered the suspect to drop the weapon, but he refused and ran while pointing the gun towards officers multiple times.

Police said the suspect fled into the 2400 block of Briarview and continued to not obey commands.

An officer with approximately five years of service discharged a weapon, striking the suspect, according to HPD.

The suspect was transported to a hospital for treatment. No officers were injured during the incident.

The investigation remains ongoing.
