Court records reveal identity of woman arrested, accused of threatening Dr. Matthews

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — The woman involved in a confrontation earlier this week with Dr. Matthews has been identified as Aisha Shahid.

The confrontation was captured on video by both Dr. Matthews and Shahid.

Shahid has previously been publicly associated with David Jones, a self-described Port Arthur activist who has been a longtime critic of Dr. Matthews.

Jones previously drew attention during a Jefferson County election when social media posts attributed to him referenced bringing weapons to polling locations and included statements such as, “I sure hope nobody die at the polls today.” Houston Stringer previously reported on those posts.

Court records show Shahid has been charged with misdemeanor terroristic threat following the June 22 incident.

According to a probable cause affidavit filed by Harris County Precinct 4, Dr. Matthews reported she was eating lunch at a restaurant on Cypress Creek Parkway when Shahid entered the business and immediately approached her table.

The affidavit states Dr. Matthews told investigators Shahid verbally threatened her by saying she was “going to whoop her ass.” Dr. Matthews told deputies she feared imminent serious bodily injury and displayed pepper spray for her own safety.

According to the affidavit, Shahid continued yelling, cursing and causing a disturbance inside the restaurant before leaving.

Investigators reviewed video recorded by Dr. Matthews during the encounter. The affidavit states deputies observed Shahid confronting Dr. Matthews and making threatening statements in the video.

The affidavit further states that Dr. Matthews told investigators she and Shahid knew each other from prior encounters and alleged Shahid had previously harassed her through phone calls. Dr. Matthews also reported that Shahid located her at the restaurant when she was not accompanied by her security team.

Deputies identified Shahid through information provided by Dr. Matthews and confirmed her identity by comparing a driver’s license photograph to the individual shown in the video, according to the affidavit.

The affidavit states multiple witnesses told investigators that Shahid entered the restaurant, approached Dr. Matthews and made threats to physically assault her. A restaurant hostess also reportedly told deputies that Shahid walked directly to Dr. Matthews’ table and immediately began confronting her.

The Harris County District Attorney’s Office later accepted a charge of terroristic threat, according to the affidavit.

Court records show the case was filed June 22, 2026, and remains active. The offense is listed as terroristic threat causing fear of imminent serious bodily injury. Records indicate a misdemeanor information has been filed in the case.

According to court records, Shahid’s defendant status is listed as bond made. Records show she made a $100 bond. A court setting is scheduled for June 30, 2026.

Court records also show prosecutors requested bond conditions prohibiting Shahid from contacting Dr. Matthews directly or indirectly during the pendency of the case. Prosecutors also requested that Shahid be prohibited from coming within 200 feet of Dr. Matthews.

Additional requested bond conditions include prohibiting Shahid from possessing firearms, ammunition or other weapons, and from using or possessing alcohol, controlled substances, dangerous drugs or marijuana unless prescribed by a physician.

Court records also show Shahid was previously charged with misdemeanor theft in 2009. That case was dismissed on Feb. 22, 2010, according to court records.

In a video recorded after the confrontation, EOS Fitness management confirmed to Dr. Matthews’ head of security that Shahid is employed by the gym. According to statements made in the video, EOS Fitness said it would be taking appropriate measures regarding the matter.
