Man shot, suspect flees with gun and cash after gun sale turns into robbery at Houston hotel

HOUSTON – June 30, 2026 – Houston police are investigating a shooting that followed an attempted gun sale robbery Tuesday evening at the Luxury Inn & Suites in southeast Houston.

Officers responded to a shooting call around 7:30 p.m. at the Luxury Inn & Suites, 8113 Easthaven. When officers arrived, they found an adult male in his 40s suffering from a gunshot wound to the leg.

According to Houston police, the suspect, described as a male in his late 30s or 40s, came to the hotel to buy a pistol while his girlfriend waited in a vehicle parked across the street. The suspect met with individuals in the back of the hotel to complete the transaction.

Police said the suspect was holding the pistol and asked to see the clip. After inserting the clip into the pistol, he asked if they had change for a $100 bill. Investigators said the suspect then took the gun and the money and ran through the parking lot.

As the suspect fled, another individual who was not involved in the gun sale came out of the hotel area and began shooting at the suspect. During the exchange, that individual was struck in the leg.

Police said the suspect made it to his girlfriend’s vehicle across the street before fleeing the scene with the pistol and the money.

The man who was shot in the leg was taken to a hospital by a relative and is expected to recover.

The suspect remains at large. Charges are pending review by investigators and the District Attorney’s Office. The investigation remains ongoing.
