HOUSTON – A woman was wounded after an exchange of gunfire outside a convenience store in northeast Houston early Thursday morning, according to the Houston Police Department.

The shooting happened around 2 a.m. at a convenience store in the area of Homestead Road and Parker Road.
Investigators said a woman in her 30s and a 49-year-old man became involved in a verbal argument in the parking lot. The woman was inside a vehicle while the man was on foot.
Police said the store owner told investigators she did not want the 49-year-old man on the property and said he had repeatedly caused problems at the business.
According to investigators, surveillance video shows the man approaching the woman multiple times during the argument. Police said the woman eventually retrieved a pistol from her vehicle and fired at the man from a distance. Investigators said the man also had a pistol and returned fire, striking the woman in the ankle.
The woman was transported to a local hospital with injuries that are not believed to be life-threatening. Police recovered her firearm at the scene.
The 49-year-old man fled on foot before officers arrived. Investigators said they know his identity but have not yet located him.
Police said the reason for the argument remains under investigation. The case will be presented to the Harris County District Attorney’s Office, which will determine whether criminal charges will be filed.
The investigation remains ongoing.
