HOUSTON – A 20-year-old woman was shot in the neck during an early Wednesday morning incident in the parking lot of a southeast Houston business.

According to the Houston Police Department, officers responded at about 3:38 a.m. to the 1500 block of Lombardy after reports of a shooting.

Investigators said a vehicle occupied by a male driver and the 20-year-old woman, who was seated in the back seat, was parked at a business in the 4800 block of the Gulf Freeway with another SUV.

Police said the business key holder received a call about people in the parking lot and went to investigate. The key holder told investigators he heard what he believed were gunshots and fired toward the vehicles.

The woman was struck in the neck while sitting in the back seat. The second SUV left the scene and has not been located.

Investigators said the vehicle carrying the wounded woman crossed the freeway before crashing on Lombardy. The business key holder followed the vehicle to the crash scene, remained there, and is cooperating with investigators.

After the crash, the male driver and the wounded woman fled on foot through nearby backyards. Residents who saw them running called police.

Officers located the injured woman and transported her to a local hospital, where she was reported to be in stable condition. The male driver was not located.

Police said the vehicle involved has a bullet hole in its rear window.

No charges have been filed as investigators continue working to determine the circumstances leading up to the shooting, including whether the business key holder was being fired upon before returning fire.
