HOUSTON, Texas — Dr. Matthews hosted the Bless the Block back-to-school event Saturday at Wesley Square Apartments, bringing together community organizations, volunteers and local leaders to provide backpacks, school supplies, food and family-friendly activities ahead of the new school year.

The event was held in conjunction with Hoodies for Healing, Each One Feed One and 4 Corners Kids. Families enjoyed music, free food and community fellowship while children received backpacks and school supplies to help them prepare for the upcoming school year.

Representatives from Harris County Precinct 7 were also in attendance to support the community event.

Speakers, which included Quanell X, encouraged residents to come together as one community, support one another, and look out for their neighbors. Several shared personal stories about overcoming adversity and emphasized the importance of unity, service, and strengthening neighborhoods.

Organizers said the event was designed to ensure local children have the resources they need to begin the school year while bringing the community together through fellowship and support.
