HOUSTON – A 19-year-old man is in critical condition after a suspected robbery led to a shooting Monday evening near the intersection of Corder Street and Tierwester Street in southeast Houston.

According to the Houston Police Department, officers responded around 7:48 p.m. to the shooting scene.

Investigators said the 19-year-old victim and his 15-year-old brother had been at a nearby park before meeting up with another group. The brothers later left the area in a gray Honda Civic when four suspects, described as late teenagers or men in their early 20s, opened fire on their vehicle.

The 19-year-old driver was struck by gunfire before the vehicle crashed into a ditch. Houston Fire Department crews transported him to a local hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

His 15-year-old brother is cooperating with investigators.

Police said surveillance video shows four Black male suspects running from the scene. Investigators believe at least one of the suspects was armed with a handgun. No arrests have been made.

Detectives said the shooting appears to have stemmed from a robbery, although the investigation remains in its early stages. Investigators are also working to determine whether the victims had been headed to an ATM or nearby store before the shooting, as parts of the initial account have not yet been confirmed.

Because the crashed vehicle could not immediately be searched, investigators have not determined whether any weapons were inside.
