Dr. Matthews, customer confront Whataburger after alleged rotten chicken sickens man

HOUSTON – Dr. Candice Matthews and a customer visited a Whataburger restaurant near Woodland Hills on Tuesday after the customer alleged he was served rotten chicken strips that made him sick and required treatment at an emergency room.

According to statements made during the visit, the customer said he purchased the meal on July 31, discovered what he described as rotten chicken while eating his second chicken strip, and later became ill. He said he canceled birthday plans, sought medical treatment, received medication, and continues recovering.

During the visit, Dr. Matthews displayed what she said was the customer’s preserved chicken strips, claiming they had been kept refrigerated since the purchase. She said the customer maintained the food as evidence after the incident.

The pair entered the restaurant seeking to speak with management. The customer requested a copy of his receipt before leaving the restaurant.

After leaving the restaurant, Dr. Matthews and the customer warned other patrons about the alleged condition of the chicken and encouraged anyone with similar concerns to preserve receipts, photographs, videos, and the food itself if possible. They also suggested contacting a personal injury attorney if appropriate.

Whataburger has not yet responded to Houston Stringer’s request for comment.
