HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A brief pursuit ended with a suspected DWI driver striking six vehicles at FM 2920 and Cypress Rosehill Road.

The Harris County Sheriff’s Office received multiple calls around 7:50 p.m. about a white Dodge Ram 1500 traveling recklessly eastbound on FM 2920. Callers reported that the driver crossed multiple lanes, forced vehicles off the road and traveled in the wrong lane.

A deputy located the truck at a Valero gas station in the 6900 block of FM 2920 after several callers followed the vehicle and pointed it out. The driver refused to stop and returned to FM 2920, leading deputies on a pursuit lasting less than two minutes.

The truck reached speeds between 40 and 60 mph before accelerating near Cypress Rosehill Road, entering a ditch and losing control. The truck then crossed the intersection and struck six vehicles.

The 53-year-old driver was detained and transported to a hospital. Investigators believe he was under the influence and are pursuing possible evading and DWI charges.

Five other adults were transported to area hospitals with injuries that were not considered life-threatening. No children were involved.

The truck was registered in Michigan and had not been reported stolen. The intersection was expected to remain affected for several hours while investigators processed and cleared the scene.
