HOUSTON, TX — A 44-year-old man died after being found unconscious during a townhome fire in the 6300 block of Cattails Lane overnight.

According to the Houston Police Department, a neighbor called 911 around 11:43 p.m. after smelling smoke and locating it at the man’s townhome.

Houston firefighters entered the home and found a fire in the kitchen. The man, who lived alone, was found unconscious in another room.

Firefighters performed CPR before he was transported to a hospital, where he later died. A dog that lived at the townhome could not be found and may have escaped.

The fire was extinguished. Authorities said there was no immediate indication of foul play, but an investigation is underway.
