HOUSTON – A man was found wearing only his underwear in a bayou after allegedly causing a crash and leading officers on a pursuit near Westheimer Road and Hillcroft Avenue shortly after midnight.

Police said officers witnessed the man strike another vehicle around 12:20 a.m. He allegedly left the scene, prompting officers to pursue him.

The man later exited his vehicle while it was still moving. The unoccupied vehicle drifted away before stopping as he fled into the bayou.

Officers found the man in his underwear and hiding in the bayou while refusing to surrender. Police deployed less-lethal weapons and took him into custody without any major injuries.

A woman in the vehicle he allegedly struck was transported to a hospital with neck and back injuries.

Police are consulting with the Harris County District Attorney’s Office. The man could face charges of failure to stop and render aid and evading in a vehicle.
