HARRIS COUNTY, TX – Dr. Candice Matthews is seeking more specific court protections involving Aisha Shahid after Shahid allegedly showed up and testified at one of Dr. Matthews’ protective order hearings without being subpoenaed.

Dr. Matthews said Shahid appeared at the hearing while facing a terroristic threat charge involving fear of imminent serious bodily injury following a confrontation with Dr. Matthews at a hibachi restaurant.

Dr. Matthews said Shahid’s appearance prompted her to seek clearly defined distance and conduct restrictions intended to prevent additional courthouse confrontations. She said court transcripts document Shahid’s testimony.

Dr. Matthews appeared in Harris County Criminal Court at Law No. 12 to request the additional protections, but the matter was not resolved.

Attorney Adjua Rochelle Umoja-Justice said they waited about 2.5 hours, but Shahid’s attorney was handling another matter in a different courtroom. Umoja-Justice said she could not approach the judge without opposing counsel present because that would have been an ex parte communication.

Dr. Matthews and Umoja-Justice said they plan to return to court.
