DALLAS, TX – Dr. Matthews received an honorary doctorate degree in public service during Harvest Christian University’s Fall Class of 2026 Honorary Doctoral Masterclass Commencement hosted at Champions Social Club in Dallas.

Dr. Matthews was introduced as a Houston-based human welfare services advocate who has worked with multiple governments and in the community. She was recognized for being outspoken in her advocacy and for her work on behalf of families and individuals impacted by systems.

After receiving the degree, Dr. Matthews said she was “humbled and honored” and explained that she does not accept awards from every organization. She said she researched Harvest Christian University, including reviewing its financial records, before accepting the honorary degree.

Dr. Matthews also spoke about a previous honorary doctorate that was rescinded, saying she later determined the school that issued it was not legitimate.

“At the end of the day, you have to let the work speak for you,” Dr. Matthews said.

Dr. Matthews said she accepted the latest honor not only for herself, but also for the community she represents.

“When you stand for people who can’t stand for themselves. When you bust doors for people that don’t have the voice to do so, this is what continues for you to keep the work going,” Dr. Matthews said.

Dr. Matthews concluded by telling Harvest Christian University that she accepted the recognition “with full respect and for my people.”
