HOUSTON — Dr. Verna Caddie has rescinded another honorary doctorate, this time the Honorary Doctorate in Humanitarianism awarded to Lanita Hale.
In a public statement, Dr. Matthews said the decision followed Hale’s participation in a press conference with people Dr. Verna Caddie allegedly did not approve of. The university cited ethical and moral standards, integrity, and concerns about its credibility and reputation.
This is not the first honorary doctorate rescinded by the university. Leaders Esteem Christian Bible University previously revoked an honorary doctorate awarded to Dr. Matthews following a separate dispute with Dr. Verna Caddie.
Dr. Matthews said her honorary doctorate was rescinded after she refused an alleged request for $20,000 in security expenses and blocked communications with Dr. Verna Caddie. Dr. Matthews claimed the decision was made without due process.
Dr. Matthews also alleged that other recipients experienced similar actions while she served on the university’s board.
Dr. Matthews is calling on Dr. Verna Caddie to identify the specific misconduct or policy violation that led to Hale’s honorary doctorate being rescinded.
“Humanitarian service should be judged by the work, not by somebody’s personal associations,” Dr. Matthews stated.
