HOUSTON, TX – A man was critically injured, and a woman was wounded during a road rage incident involving three vehicles and an armed detention officer on West Loop South.

Houston police said the incident began around I-610 and Ella Boulevard and ended near I-610 and San Felipe Street. It involved a black Camaro, a silver Escalade and a white truck.

The vehicles made contact at some point before shots were fired.

The man driving the Escalade was shot once and transported to a hospital in critical condition. A woman in the Escalade was shot in the arm and hospitalized in stable condition. A 7-year-old child was also inside the Escalade, but no injuries to the child were reported.

An armed detention officer assigned to the Detention Support Services Bureau was inside the Camaro and was not injured. A woman traveling with him was hospitalized with injuries from the collision.

The occupants of the white truck and Escalade also became involved in a physical altercation. The truck’s driver then left, leaving his female passenger at the scene. Officers later located the truck and its driver.

Everyone believed to have been involved was detained and cooperating with investigators. One firearm was turned over to police, but investigators were still searching the vehicles and other areas where evidence may have been discarded.

No immediate charges were expected. The Houston Police Department’s Major Assaults Division, Harris County Internal Affairs Division and crime scene investigators are handling the investigation.
