HOUSTON, TX — A man died after being struck on the Gulf Freeway near El Dorado Boulevard and Baybrook Mall. Houston police officers from the Clear Lake Division responded around 9:11 p.m. last night and found the man, who appeared to have been struck multiple times. Houston Fire Department crews pronounced him deceased at the scene.

The driver of a Lexus SUV identified as the initial striking vehicle remained at the scene. The driver told police they had one alcoholic beverage around 5 p.m. The police DWI unit cleared and released the driver. No charges are pending at this time.

Around 9 p.m., dispatch received two calls about a man who might have been experiencing a mental health crisis at a nearby shopping center near Dave’s Hot Chicken and a pizzeria. Police believe the calls may have involved the man who was struck on the freeway a few minutes later.
