Three officers shoot woman accused of shooting man at apartment complex

HOUSTON, Texas – A woman accused of shooting a man at an apartment complex was shot by three responding officers after a shooting call around 11:13 a.m. earlier today. The woman and the man were transported to a local hospital in critical condition.

According to Assistant Chief Yasar Bashir, officers initially received information that a woman was shooting at a man. While officers were en route, they received an update that she had returned to the man and shot him again.

Officers arrived within minutes and found the woman outside the apartment complex, walking near a sidewalk. Bashir said officers gave verbal commands, but she refused to comply. Three officers then fired multiple times, reporting that they feared for their safety.

Officers approached the woman to provide medical attention and recovered two pistols in her possession.

Asked whether the woman fired at officers, Bashir said there was no indication of that at the time of the briefing. Whether she pointed a gun at officers remains under investigation.

Investigators had not determined the relationship between the woman and the man, whether either lived at the complex or what led to the initial shooting. No additional injuries were reported.

HPD’s IAH, SIU and the district attorney’s office will conduct parallel investigations. Bashir said body camera footage will be released within 30 days and the three officers will be taken off street duty.
