HOUSTON, TX — A man was critically injured during a shooting involving two vehicles in the 1000 block of West Orem Drive around 9:30 p.m., according to the Houston Police Department.
The man was inside his car with his girlfriend when a suspect fired into the vehicle. He suffered a gunshot wound to his upper body and was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition. His girlfriend was not injured.
While Southwest Division officers were investigating, another shooting call came in a couple of blocks west. Police determined gunfire had been exchanged between the suspect’s and victim’s vehicles, striking an occupied home. No injuries were reported inside the home.
Police said the suspect fled and rear-ended another vehicle. That vehicle’s driver was not injured and remained at the scene to provide a statement.
Investigators were working to determine what prompted the gunfire. According to the Houston Police Department, road rage was a possibility, but investigators were also examining whether an earlier dispute caused the vehicles to follow each other.
The suspect remained at large, and no description was available. HPD’s Major Assaults Division will investigate.
