BAYTOWN, Texas — A Baytown man has been arrested after police say he shot a man behind Texas Billiards Club after being asked to leave early Monday morning.
Investigators identified the suspect as Christopher Chavez, 21. Police used license plate reader technology to determine his whereabouts and located him and his vehicle at a bait camp in the 200 block of Simms Road. He was arrested without incident.
Officers responded to the shooting around 2:20 a.m. Oct. 26 in the rear parking lot of the bar in the 100 block of West Texas Avenue.
According to court documents, a bartender told investigators Chavez approached her and made unwanted advances. She said Chavez was a regular customer and had harassed her before. The bartender asked the victim to help get everyone out because the bar was closing.
The documents state Chavez told the victim to walk outside first after being asked to leave. Investigators said surveillance video showed the victim punch Chavez once, then take four or five steps back, creating distance between them.
According to the documents, Chavez then drew a handgun and fired three shots, striking the victim twice, before leaving in a green Chevrolet truck.
The victim was airlifted to a hospital and was reported to be in stable condition. No other injuries were reported.
The Harris County District Attorney’s Office accepted a charge of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon against Chavez.
