A fire damaged four units at Missionary Village Apartments Wednesday evening, displacing nine adults and 12 children, fire officials said. One child suffered minor injuries.

The fire was reported at 8:11 p.m. The first crew arrived at 8:13 p.m. and found heavy flames at one corner of the two-story building. Firefighters went inside to put out the fire and search for occupants. Fire officials said everyone was evacuated and crews rescued a dog.
Neighbors said they saw flames downstairs before the fire spread upstairs. One neighbor said they called 911 and ran around the corner to help. Neighbors said a man went upstairs, kicked in an apartment door, and helped people get out. He tried to put out the fire before coming back outside, they said.
Another resident said a thick cloud of smoke hit them when they opened their apartment door. The resident said their family made it outside safely.
The Red Cross was called to help displaced residents, and the cause of the fire remains under investigation.
