HOUSTON, Texas — A man suffered burns in a house fire early Thursday in the 5600 block of Los Angeles in northeast Houston.

The first crews arrived just after midnight and found heavy flames at the front of the house and heavy smoke coming from the rest of the home, according to the Houston Fire Department. Firefighters searched the house and extinguished the fire.

The fire chief said the man was taken to a hospital for further evaluation and care. Medics evaluated a woman at the scene, and she declined transport.

Officials said the fire appears to have started near the front of the house, possibly in the living room. The cause remains under investigation, and up to four people may have been displaced.
