HOUSTON, Texas — A 17-year-old shot and killed his father during an altercation inside a northwest Houston home early Friday, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

Pct. 1 deputies responded to a shooting in the 7700 block of Westbank around 1:30 a.m. and found the 37-year-old father deceased inside the home with gunshot wounds.

Sgt. Jason Brown with the Sheriff’s Office Homicide Division said family members told investigators the teen retrieved a pistol and shot his father during the altercation. Investigators were interviewing the teen’s mother and two siblings, who were home at the time, to determine what led to the shooting. No one else was injured.

The teen apparently left on foot, and deputies were searching for him. Brown said investigators had yet to speak with the teen or determine whether charges would be filed. The Sheriff’s Office said it did not believe the teen posed a threat to the community.
