Houston police are currently investigating a fatal crash that occurred at 4200 North Freeway (North Interstate Highway 45) at around 10:15 p.m. on Wednesday, April 26. The identity of the deceased 42-year-old male is still pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
According to HPD Vehicular Crimes Division, the victim was a passenger in a blue Ford E450 van that was transporting furniture southbound on the main lanes of the North Freeway. Witnesses reported that the vehicle lost control, flipped on its side, and struck a concrete wall. A preliminary investigation suggests that the driver was not wearing a seatbelt and the passenger was not sitting in a proper seat at the time of the accident.
Houston Fire Department paramedics responded to the scene and pronounced the passenger dead. The driver sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital. It was determined that the driver was not impaired.
As the investigation continues, no charges have been filed at this time.
