Lawsuit claims bar is responsible for woman’s death after she was fatally struck by a car

HARRIS COUNTY, TX – A lawsuit was filed this week against Scary Canary Pub after a woman who was served alcohol at the bar was fatally struck by a car shortly after leaving the establishment back in December 2023.

The lawsuit alleges that the Scary Canary Pub located in Northwest Harris County is responsible for her death under the Dram Shop law. The lawsuit claims that the victim, Lauren Goppert was over-served alcohol by employees of the pub and then left on foot.

She was then struck by a car about half a mile away. According to police at the time, Lauren was attempting to cross the roadway when she was struck by a vehicle. That driver was unable to stop in time and struck her. She remained on scene, did not show any signs of intoxication, and no charges were filed.

The lawsuit is filed in Harris County District Court under Case No. 2024-26323.
