FOR BEND COUNTY, TX (July 2, 2024) – Deputies with the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s office have arrested a 33-year-old man by the name of Emilio Cruz, Jr., who they say hit a cyclist and left him in a ditch.
According to the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Office, construction workers found the cyclist on June 11, 2024 in the 6900 block of FM 361 near Pine Meadow Lane in Needville, TX.
When deputies arrived they found 61-year-old Enrique Gomez in a drainage ditch and a damaged bicycle nearby. Enrique was pronounced deceased at the scene.
Further investigation revealed that a deputy was dispatched to the scene of a stalled vehicle that had been involved in an accident on FM 361 on May 24, 2024, a little over two weeks before the construction workers found Enrique. The deputy made a crash report after talking with the driver.
After it was determined the two crashes were related a failure to stop and render aid arrest warrant was issued for Cruz. He is currently being held on a bond set at $100,000.
Sheriff Eric Fagan released the following statement: “Our deputies and investigators have worked tirelessly on this case to bring clarity to such a tragic incident. Words cannot adequately express the sorrow we feel for the Godinez family.”
