Suspect shot and killed after firing at employees and officers inside Sam’s Club on East Freeway

HOUSTON, TX – A suspect was shot and killed after firing at employees and officers inside a Sam’s Club in east Houston late last night.

The shooting occurred around 11:12 p.m. in the 13600 block of the East Freeway.

According to police, officers responded to a shooting call and discovered a male suspect had been vandalizing and breaking into vehicles in the parking lot. Employees inside the business ran outside after hearing the activity, at which point the suspect began shooting at them, causing them to retreat back inside the store.

Police said the suspect followed the employees inside and continued firing. Officers then entered the business, where an exchange of gunfire occurred between officers and the suspect.

The suspect was struck more than one time. Officers rendered aid until EMS arrived, and the suspect was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced deceased. No officers or employees were injured.

The shooting occurred inside the business.

The investigation is being handled by the Homicide Special Investigations Unit, Internal Affairs Division, and the Harris County District Attorney’s Office. Body camera footage is expected to be released within 30 days.
