HOUSTON, TX — A woman was killed and two additional passengers were injured in a two-vehicle crash on East Orem Drive.

According to Houston Police Department Vehicular Crimes Division, witnesses reported that a Jeep SUV was traveling westbound at a high rate of speed when it struck a Honda Accord exiting a residential neighborhood.

The woman in the Honda was pronounced deceased at the scene. Two additional passengers in the Honda were transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The Jeep was driven by a man who had a juvenile family member in the vehicle. Neither appeared to have been injured.

Officers determined that the Jeep driver showed signs of intoxication. He was taken to another location to be evaluated by a drug recognition expert.

The Harris County District Attorney’s Office responded to the scene and determined that reckless manslaughter was the most suitable initial charge. Garcia said the charge could later be changed to intoxication manslaughter based on the investigation and evidence collected.
