HOUSTON, TX – A person was found deceased inside an overturned trash can at a small apartment complex in the 3100 block of Anita Street earlier this morning.

Houston police said officers responded around 12:13 a.m. after a caller reported hearing gunfire and seeing someone attempting to place a body inside a trash can.

The caller blocked their number, preventing officers from calling back for additional information.

Officers searched the parking lot and found the deceased person inside an overturned trash can. They were unable to immediately determine whether the person had been shot, suffered blunt-force trauma or sustained another type of injury.

Police found trails of blood leading to an apartment, where a man refused to come outside. The Patrol Support Team used breaching equipment to remove him from the apartment.

The man and another person were being questioned as persons of interest. No suspects had been identified.

Police are investigating the death as a homicide. The person’s cause of death remains undetermined.
