Six people are dead following overnight shootings and crashes in north Houston

In north Harris County, a 23-year-old man shot himself after fleeing Pct. 4 deputy constables responding to a family disturbance on Carols Way around 1:30 a.m., according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies pursued the man approximately one block before he produced a handgun and shot himself in front of them. He was pronounced deceased at the scene. The Sheriff’s Office said no deputies fired their weapons. Its Homicide Division is investigating the case as a death in custody.

Near Jones Road and FM 1960, two people were pronounced deceased at the scene of a two-vehicle crash. Two others were transported to a hospital. Investigators were working to determine what led to the collision.

On the North Freeway near Parramatta Lane, a driver died at a hospital after her car struck barriers and was hit by another vehicle, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

A separate driver struck a deputy’s patrol vehicle that was blocking the freeway during the investigation. Injury information from that second collision was not released.

In northwest Houston, a father fatally shot his infant’s grandmother and critically wounded the child before shooting himself at The Veranda at Centerfield apartments on Willow Chase Boulevard, according to Houston police.

Police said the father went to the apartment to deliver diapers and argued with the infant’s 19-year-old mother. He then shot the grandmother, approximately 40, in the back and the infant in the abdomen.

The mother rushed the infant outside. She was not injured.

Officers found the father deceased and performed CPR on the grandmother. Houston firefighters transported the grandmother and infant to a hospital, where the grandmother was pronounced deceased. The infant was last reported in critical condition.
