HOUSTON, Texas — Nine civilians, including several children, and a firefighter were taken to the hospital after a fire at Heatherwood Apartments at 9001 S. Braeswood Blvd., according to the Houston Fire Department.
HFD says firefighters arrived to find flames coming from both floors of the two-story building and spreading into the attic. Crews fought the fire, conducted a primary search, and brought the fire under control within 30 minutes.
The civilians suffered minor to moderate injuries. The firefighter sustained a head injury in a ladder-related incident while working at the scene.
The department dispatched 56 personnel.
The American Red Cross was notified to assist residents, and HFD arson investigators were called to determine where and how the fire started.
