HOUSTON, TX – A Harris County Sheriff patrol deputy was shot in the abdomen during a drive-by shooting at a home in north Houston earlier this morning.

According to the Houston Police Department, officers responded to the scene and found the deputy inside the home, lying in his bed. Family members, including children, were also inside at the time of the shooting.

The sheriff’s office says the deputy was asleep at the time of the shooting and that this appears to be a random act of violence, and the deputy is currently undergoing surgery.
