Driver Killed After Camaro Catches Fire Following Crash on Eastex Freeway Feeder Near Lauder

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — A driver was killed early Wednesday morning after a single-vehicle crash on the Eastex Freeway feeder road near Lauder that caused the vehicle to catch fire, according to the Harris County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputy Anderson with the Harris County Sheriff’s Office Vehicular Crimes Division said deputies from the District 2 Patrol Division responded at approximately 1:38 a.m. to the crash scene.

According to investigators, roadway evidence indicates the driver failed to maintain a single lane of traffic, causing the vehicle to strike a light pole before catching fire.

The driver, who was the sole occupant of a yellow Chevrolet Camaro, was unable to escape the vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

No other passengers or vehicles were involved in the crash.

Investigators said it remains unknown whether alcohol, speed, or possible racing were factors in the crash. The investigation remains ongoing.
